Music sites
World Cafe radio show Public radio show out of Philadelphia's WXPN. Lots of up and coming acts perform live
nightly. Check your local public radio station for air time.
Etown radio show Another great radio show; this one's out of Boulder, Colorado. It also airs on public radio. Has a
cool evironmental bent to it too.
Nugs.net Jam-band site of sorts: Phish, Grateful Dead, etc. The good thing is that it
regularly posts live shows of MP3s for downloading.
Paste magazine A music magazine that doesn't cowtow to superstars. The great thing about it is it
reviews tons of albums per issue, and it has really good taste. Also has film and book sections and includes a
two CDs in every issue: one of music, one a DVD of music videos and film clips. Very cool.
No Depression magazine This magazine focuses on alt.country acts, though its definition of
alt.country seems to be stretched very wide... and that's a good thing.
Puremusic.com This online music magazine covers singer-songwriters and pop and roots music for grownups. Each month it offers three interviews with different artists as well as clips of their songs. The folks that run this site, out of Nashville, are extremely knowledgable and nice.
Americana-uk.com This British site offers reviews of shows in England, Scotland and Ireland. Just another way to stay in touch with what's going on out there.
Fish records Another British site that focuses more on record reviews.
Signature Sounds records Home to some of my favorite artists: Josh Ritter, Erin McKoewn, Kris Delmhorst and
Lori McKenna.
Lemurs.net A guy's collection of musician photos. Some fine shots from a wide range of acts.
Josh Ritter.com Official site of Josh Ritter. For those unknowing, that's him at
left with bass player Zack Hickman.
Josh Ritter fan site Great fan site. Doug Rice, who runs it, not only captures the
band at its best but is also a really nice guy. His site offers photos, MP3 downloads and
the latest info on the band.
Michelle Shocked fan site Australian-based site that has everything a Michelle fan needs, including a great setlist component and photos.
OLGA Short for Online Guitar Archive. Need the chords to a favorite song or even an
obscure one? This site is sure to have what you're looking for.
Samkassirer.com Great way to keep track of the family's piano man.
WUMB-FM (91.9) Excellent folk station from UMass Boston.
WERS-FM (88.9) My alma mater, Emerson College, has a great radio station; their morning show, the Coffeehouse, plays folk and singer-songwriter from the past to the present, and even rocks it up a bit.
WMUD (89.3) Excellent, eclectic radio station housed on a working farm in rural Vermont. If you don't live in upstate Vermont and the Lake Champlain valley of New York you may not get it on terrestrial radio, but you can hear it streaming over the Internet at wmud.org.
Non-music sites
Acord Food Pantry The dedication of the people who run this pantry is amazing, and the town really stands behind it.
It's a great organization to be a part of.
Project Bread This organization holds one of the great events in Boston, the Walk for Hunger, a 20-mile walk around
the city to benefit area food pantries. My wife and I have been a part of it for 20 years.
Old Friends One of my good friends from the newspaper retired and moved to Kentucky to start this nonprofit to save
retired thoroughbred horses. They've already got a number of champions on their farm and are worth supporting.
Boston Red Sox What can I say. I'm a lifelong fan who last year was finally
rewarded with a championship. That's me at left, with the World Series trophy. Yes, the
gonfalon is finally ours.
New England Patriots Oh yes, the other team in town, the one that owns 3 Super
Bowl trophies. They're pretty good too!
Boston Dirt Dogs All the gossip that's fit to print about Boston sports teams is right
here. These guys are unafraid to speak their mind, and start a little trouble.
Ifilm.com Film clips of all unusual sorts...
Imdb.com Can't remember the name of that actress in that movie you can't remember the name of? Try this site, it's got
it all.
